Hold the “Fn” key on the keyboard, located in the bottom left corner of the keyboard. While holding “Fn” press the “F5” key to enable the wireless network adapter. The “Wireless status” light, located directly below the display, will turn green.
Enable WiFi with a function key Another way to enable WiFi is by pressing the “Fn” key and one of the function keys (F1-F12) at the same time to toggle wireless on and off. The specific key to use will vary by computer. Look for a small wireless icon as shown in the below example image of an F12 key.
Go to the Start Menu and select Control Panel. Click the Network and Internet category and then select Networking and Sharing Center. From the options on the left-hand side, select Change adapter settings. Right-click on the icon for Wireless Connection and click enable.
Keys on the keyboard Most modern laptops have an Fn key at the bottom left of the keyboard (usually with blue or mauve paint), and then the top row of keys double up as both F1, F2, F3 etc and shortcut keys for things like volume, brightness, and WiFi on/off.
This key might be the F10 key, F12 key or labeled with a symbol of an airplane. If wireless activity comes on or the activity light turns blue, you have enabled wireless on your system. Try connecting to the Internet again.

Press fn and the left shift key at the same time to enable fn (function) mode. When the fn key light is on, you must press the fn key and a function key to activate the default action.
You don’t need an FN key on a standard keyboard, that’s why there isn’t one. Multimedia keyboards will more than likely have a function lock instead of a function key. Laptops have smaller keyboards, and thus many buttons have multiple functions. That’s why there’s an FN key.
The laptop must have advanced BIOS options for the “Fn” key to be disabled.
If you see an Fn padlock on your Esc key, press and hold the Fn key. Then press Esc while holding the Fn key. Thereafter, you won’t need to press the Fn key to active secondary key functions. To unlock Fn, press and hold Fn and the Esc key again.
All the F-keys have a symbol on it. Normally you would press Fn + your to use it. On this laptop, it’s reversed. The symbol is what you get when you press the button normally and you have to press Fn + F-key to get the usual action.
Select the Device Configuration menu. Press the right or left arrow key to select Enable or Disable the Fn Key switch. Press the f10 key to save the setting and restart the computer.
1 Control panel, Windows mobility center – There may be an item called Function key row with a dropdown list. You should find it set to Multimedia keys & can select Function keys instead. The settigs will revert to their default when you restart the PC. 2 Reboot into the BIOS & look for the Multimedia key item.
